Unfortunately, moving the partition between atoms causes the Voronoi construction to fail. All volume is no longer partitioned between the atoms, with some instead being lost in so-called error quadrants.
This figure shows the creation of two error quadrants when the central atom is assumed to be 1/3 the size of its neighbors.
